What are the DEMAC Awards?

 

DEMACregularly invites all Mexican women to write their life stories in different forms or categories. The essays that are submitted are evaluated by a renowned jury. The winner story receives a cash prize and publication of their work. It also grants honorable mentions that are also published.
 

DEMAC has invited all women to write their stories since 1993 in six different categories: autobiography, biography, prison literature, writing, youth, regional awards, Latin American consciousness and photography.

In our competitions hundreds of women have participated between the ages of 13 and 95 years of age from all states of Mexico and several Latin American countries. They are farmers, executives, housewives, professionals, prostitutes, students, politicians, etc. Most participants are from Mexico City, Puebla, Chiapas, Veracruz, Oaxaca and other countries, but we have also had submissions from Germany, Canada, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, United States, Nicaragua, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The DEMAC Award announcement is distributed through posters in the Casas de Cultura (Cultural Houses) across the country, public and private universities, museums, medical clinics, health centers, community centers, schools, non-governmental organizations, journals, newspapers national movement and of course, on this page.
